KCCC Update-Braid out

Last weekend I used the KCCC for my braid out. After my normal wash routine and braiding my hair all over I sat under the dryer for an hour. The braids were left in overnight as well. The next morning I used cocoa nut oil on my hands to take down the braids. The braids felt hard so I used the cocoa nut oil to soften up my hair. Also, I used Kinky Curly Knot Today as my leave in because it works best with the KCCC.

The results were beautiful and I was pleased. The KCCC gave me the definition I desired. In order to fight off humidity I used Kera Care Humidity Blocker Hair Spray. Unfortunately, my hair fell victim to the humidity anyway. By the time I reached the airport my hair started to fro and shrink. Instead of whimpering I decided to rock it and be fierce anyway.

Here is my hair before I left the house.

This is what my hair looked like by the time I arrived in Phoenix.

In order to protect my hair from the sun I wore my cute hat from Target while I sat by the pool.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard Teaser

The hunt for the perfect product for a braid out on my hair has initiated. Before, my Shea butter used to do the trick on my relaxed and transitioning hair. Shea butter gave me the most defined curl pattern and left my hair very moisturized and shiny. Now, my natural hair just laughs when it comes to curl definition. After watching a few you tube videos I decided to splurge on Kinky Curly Curling Custard.

Tonight is wash night and my weekend hair is a braid out. The anticipation was overwhelming so I decided to take it for a test run last night.

This section of hair has a very loose curl pattern than other areas of my hair.

First I washed with Kera Care moisturizing shampoo

This is the texture of my hair without product

Used KCKT leave in conditioner (plain)

Wet hair and applied the KCCC

Here is my hair 2 hours later

As you can see the KCCC really defined my curls so I'm looking forward to my braid out results. My hair felt kind of crunchy but hopefully cocoa nut oil can fixed that. All in all, I loved the results and full review coming soon!

Butter-n-Braids

A couple of weeks ago I purchased Shea butter from the Organic Shea Butter Company at my local Walgreens. This is my first time buying Shea butter and making my own shea butter mix. Since I have 4 inches of NG I needed a moisturizer that will work both for my NG and relaxed ends. To start, I purchased the 4oz container, $9.99, simply because of the unknown. If the Shea butter works well on my hair I will invest in a bigger container.

Shea Butter Mix

These are the steps I used for my mix. After watching several you tube videos I gathered there is not a wrong way for mixing.

1. melted Shea butter in microwave, 2 minutes
2. added oils – grape seed, castor oil, EVCO, Shea butter oil, vitamin E
           a. at this point I moisturized my hair while the mix was still in liquid form
3. refrigerated overnight
4. let stand for a couple hours

Styling

The style of choice was a braid out on dry hair after cleansing my scalp. Unfortunately, I did not have the extra time for my normal wash day routine. For a leave in I used Neutrogena Triple Moisture and moisturized with my Shea butter mix. Then lightly saturated my hair with water and braided. Additional oils to seal in the moisture were not used because I simply did not feel a need for it at the time. The next day, a Friday, I wore my Tia lace front wig to work with my hair still braided for my Saturday event.

Results

Beautiful curls! The results were gorgeous and I loved my hair. Honestly, I planned to wear a pin up or curly pony tail because my braid outs have been off key lately. Instead I wore my hair down and Jeremy loved my hair as well (additional bonus). This is the first braid out since my mini chop which I believe contributed the success. The mini chop eliminated a lot of thin relax ends that allowed my curls to look more uniformed. Let’s talk about moisture. My hair was oh so moisturized that I did not need to add more Shea butter to my hair the next day. The curls lasted all day and night and the dull look was totally eliminated. Even though I’m thrilled with the results I plan to use Shea butter more before making it a staple product. The pictures below in my opinion are not very clear. Unfortunately, I could not find my digital camera for better results. Now I just need to learn how to get second, third, and fourth day hair with my braid outs while working out.

The take down...

The day finally came to take down my hair. The take down happened during the weekend of Thanksgiving because I just couldn’t stand another day in my weave. I enjoyed it while it lasted but I was missing my hair terribly.

1. Once the braids are out: saturated my hair with Rose water and glycerin

2. Detangle

3. Add ORS Hair Mayonnaise from root to tip – protein treatment
 Eight months of new growth!

4. Plat into several braids

5. Sit under the dryer 30 minutes for protein treatment

6. Shampoo scalp only with clarifying shampoo

7. Shampoo hair with ORS Shampoo

8. D/C with heat 30 minutes – ORS Replenishing Conditioner

9. Leave ins – Neutrogena Triple Moisture, Aphogee Keratin Spray, and Proclaim 7 Oil to seal Coconut Oil

10. Plat hair in twists to air dry over night or pony tails using ouch less holders

11. Coconut oil – heat protectant

12. Flat iron

13. Trim

My results were amazing and I’m quite pleased. It seems the MTG Sulu Growth (MTG) was a success! The take down process was very, very simple. Detangling was a breeze to my surprise. I’m assuming because my hair was moisturized from oiling my scalp every week with the MTG. The end result was very soft manageable hair. I used the coconut oil for the first time as my heat protectant which made my hair silky smooth. The coconut oil is definitely a staple product and I prefer it over the EVOO. Since I flat ironed my hair, now until next wash day I will moisturize twice a day and wear pin ups.

APL? Maybe? Hopefully by the New Year!
