Ripped in 30

With everything going on in my life right now fitness has taken the back seat. Right now I'm working on getting some order back in my life so I can refocus. For the most part I've tried controlling what I eat to manage the weight gain but as you know stress causes me to eat. For a fresh start I ordered Jillian's newest DVD "Ripped in 30". As you know Jillian is my favorite trainer and I practically have all her workout DVDs. Once I receive my copy from amazon.com I plan to use this DVD to jump back on the workout bandwagon.

Get fit with Netflix

You read right! Now you can get fit with Netflix. There are tons of fitness DVDs you can receive by mail or upload to your TV. Here is a list of just a few: Jillian Michaels, Crunch, and the Biggest Loser. If you have Netflix you should take advantage of it to try out the DVD before purchasing it. This morning I worked out to a kickboxing fitness DVD uploaded right to my TV. How convenient? Now I can have more variety without stretching my pockets!!

Fitness Woes…

*sigh* Yes I start this post off with a DEEP sigh! Where do I start?! As you know I workout at home; a couple of months ago I completed the INSANITY workout series. Due to the lack of progress after completing the 60 days I simply stopped working out. Seriously?! If you are not familiar with INSANITY please search it on you tube. If I was unable to receive my desired results using this program what is the point of working out. Now there is NOTHING wrong with the INSANITY program, it’s me! The program comes with a nutrient guide and I followed the guide around 90%. However, the menu guide was comparable to my current eating style. Honestly, I’m not sure what went wrong with the program. I just do not know.

Since being on the fitness hiatus it’s time to get back on the band wagon. Fortunately, I did not gain any weight in the last 2 months. So I’m trying something different and switching up my workout time. Instead of working out in the evenings after work I decided to work out in the mornings before work. Another change is I’m taking my workouts outside to the park. Today only makes 4 days on this new routine. For now I’m going to give myself 21 days to decide how I really feel about these new changes. But I will say that getting my workouts over with early is very convenient! If any of you prefer to work out in the morning please leave a comment!!

INSANITY – Update

This week is recovery week in the INSANITY program. The end of last week marked the end of week 4 in the program. Honestly, I have yet to lose any weight. I have strictly followed the meal plan and pushed myself thru every workout. Since I do not believe in depriving myself cheat days were allowed only for special occasions. Despite the lack of weight loss I’ve been able to maintain my current weight. So far I haven’t noticed a difference in my clothing either. Truly I believe my plateau is due to my eating habits.

Now when I say eating habits I do not mean “eating bad”. I think my caloric intake needs to increase in order to speed up my metabolism to burn fat. The second half of the program I do not plan to follow the meal plan. I will continue to practice my healthy eating choices because I cannot afford not to. At this point I chose to make a change in order not to get discourage. Surely, I’ve gained muscle which may explain the lack of weight loss. Honestly, not seeing the numbers lowered on the scale is a little discouraging. So in order to keep the momentum going and energy up I’m hiding my scale!

Despite my results so far, I highly, highly recommend this program. Once my 60 days are complete I plan to start the program over. At this point I haven’t set any short term “weight” loss goals to avoid extra stress. The goal is turning healthy eating and fitness into a lifestyle. With that said I plan to continue on my journey and never give up!!

Saying Hello and Updates

First off “Happy New Year” even though my New Year’s wishes come at the end of January. For me the year started off with a death in the family and then I was sick with an upper respiratory infection. Needless to say my year started off on a bad note but I refuse to let my “start” set the tone for the rest of year.

After recouping and getting back into my normal groove I set a couple of goals for myself this year. Unfortunately, the weight I loss last year was gained right back during the holidays. The old song and dance has started with my weight loss. This year I’m going in insane with the INSANITY workouts by Shaun T. So far it’s been two weeks and the DVDs are getting addictive. The program is for 60 days and instead of tracking weight loss I’m using pictures to document the changes in my body. Of course I will keep you updated on my results. This year’s fitness goal is to get the weight off, keep it off for good, and tone up. The yo-yo effect has truly grown old to me.

As far as my hair, length is the focus for 2011. July 9 will mark my one year anniversary since my big chop. March 2011 marks two years since my last relaxer so this year I’m hitting some major marks. By December 2011 my goal is bra strap length which is about another six inches. So the plan includes protective styling and moisture! For me, protective styles work due to my fitness regimen and lack of styling creativity.

Well those are my goals for the year and now that they are shared with you the “accountability” kicks in. Please continue to stay tuned for more posts and updates.

Chao for now!

Weigh in

January 2010 - 149lbs

February 2010 - 145lbs
March 2010 - 139lbs

Describing my feelings right now as “excited” is an understatement. The last time I weighted in the 130s was in 2006. This is my year to shine!

Weigh In

Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, my new puppy, and the cold weather I gained 5lbs simply by not going to the gym and eating poorly. In retrospect 5lbs is not a lot but I weighed 149lbs. For me, 149lbs is unacceptable and the weight gain definitely motivated me to go back to the gym. Since the New Year I’ve concentrated on my eating habits and pumped up my cardio.

The plan for the next couple of weeks or 10lbs, which ever comes first, is cardio five days a week. Cardio is the secret to my weight loss and unfortunately I detest cardio. Within the last two weeks I dropped 4lbs and I’m excited. After dropping another 5lbs I will add circuits to get over the plateau. The circuits will encompass resistance but focus on cardio to continue the slim down process. Consistency is optimal for me to drop the weight and keep it off. This New Year’s resolution which I decided not to make is to work on “consistency” in every aspect of my life.
